Community Ceramic Mural
Students and staff come together to explore identity through a permanent ceramic art installation
This 3,200 square foot installation is composed of 900 ceramic tiles, each one created by 700+ Wellesley Middle School students and 160+ staff, through an artist-guided process. Each tile was created to explore identity and sense of self through a process of subtractive creation.
Alexander was artist-in-residence for this project and gave artist talks to 900 middle-schoolers in groups of 40-50 at a time, and organized and led 100+ person ceramic workshop with teachers and staff, in addition to facilitating and guiding the creation of the art itself.
