Homeward Bound
A feathered friend gives wayward folks a path home
A warm embrace homeward, no matter the direction. This painted electric box is a utilitarian way-finding beacon, a window into sweeping city vistas, and a home to a zesty pigeon-friend - all painted in Italian maiolica style.
Commissioned by the City of Boston through a competitive process, Homeward Bound is hand-painted in a meticulous and studied style inspired by maiolica, an Italian ceramic decorative style. It offers a breath of humanity in a fast-paced concrete and brick jungle. The simplicity of blues and whites, the endless patterns, and the portals into other views and perspectives tempts passers with an opportunity for meditation warmth, and delight.
